President Al-Bashir pledges to Abide by Constitution and to Hold the Referendum in the Fixed Time

Khartoum, May 27 (SUNA) - The elected President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, has pledged after taking the constitutional oath as the President of the Republic before the National Legislature Thursday to abide by the Constitution and to defend the sovereignty and unity of the country

Addressing the National Legislature after the oath-taking ceremony Thursday, President Al-Bashir affirmed his commitment to conduct the referendum on self-determination next year in the fixed time according to the articles of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in a free atmosphere and in presence of local and international observers. He expressed hope that the southerners opt to go to the referendum without any dictation and coercion imposed on them or rigging

President Al-Bashir reiterated that Sudan will never return to war once again

Meanwhile, President Al-Bashir explained that the two partners (the National Congress and Sudan People's Liberation Movement) are to discuss the post-referendum arrangements
